About the building

The St. George Recreation and Sports Hall was built on the area next to the Fényi Gyula Jesuit High School, College and Kindergarten in Miskolc with the help of national state funding. From autumn 2019, the hall will be used for the daily physical education classes of the high school, as well as for training sessions, sports competitions and leisure activities for competitive sports and the general public.

About the project

The Gymnasium of the Fényi Gyula Jesuit High School in Miskolc was opened in 2019, but acoustic considerations were most likely not taken into account during the design and construction. Soon after its opening, it became apparent that the space was so noisy that teaching was almost impossible due to low speech intelligibility. The High School approached us to help make the sports hall usable. Following an on-site acoustic survey, we used numerical acoustic modelling to scale up the sound-absorbing enclosures needed to attenuate the hall’s noise and achieve acceptable speech intelligibility.
